Larry spent 27 years in the Forest Products Industry, and was Region Manager for Chesapeake Forest Products Company (CFPC) from 1983 through 1999. He finished out his career in the industry in 2000 having worked for St. Laurent Forest Products and Smurfit-Stone, successors by buyouts to CFPC. Larry moved to the Eastern Shore in 1988 to assume the role of Region Manager for Chesapeake Forest Products Company. From that time until 2000 when he resigned to start up Vision Forestry, LLC with his partner Neil Sampson, Larry had oversight of all operations on the Eastern Shore which included procurement of 400,000 tons per year of pulpwood, chips and sawlogs for CFPC’s Pocomoke Chip Mill and Princess Anne Sawmill, as well as having management oversight on 78,000 acres of company owned land on the lower Delmarva Peninsula, 58,000 of which now comprises the Chesapeake Forest.
Larry is a licensed Maryland Professional Forester, a Virginia Certified Burn Manager, and a Certified Pesticide Applicator. During his time in Maryland, Larry has served on the Steering Committee of the Alliance for Maryland Forests, The Governor’s Executive Committee on Trees and Forests, The Maryland Master Logger Steering Committee, the Planning Techniques Committee of the Maryland Planning Commission, The Delaware Freshwater Wetlands Roundtable, The Maryland Coastal Bays Science and Technical Advisory Committee, the Maryland Sustainable Forestry Initiative State Implementation Committee, The MD Center of Agro-Ecology Board of Directors and Research Advisory Committee, served on the Steering Committee that provided feedback during the creation of the Chesapeake Forest Sustainable Forestry Plan and the Board of Directors of the Lower Shore Land Trust. He currently maintains memberships with the Society of American Foresters, The Nature Conservancy, Maryland Forests Association, Maryland Farm Bureau, Virginia Forestry Association and Forest Resources Association.
